On Tuesday April 26, in one of several events for the 2016 PEN World Voices Festival, which features his home country of Mexico, Juan Villoro, author of God Is Round: Tackling the Giants, Villains, Triumphs, and Scandals of the World's Favorite Game, will appear on the "Reckoning Mexico" panel.
You can study Mexico, imagine Mexico, or debate about Mexico, but the best way to understand the spiritual landscape of this country is by listening to the stories of its writers. Let literature serve as a guidebook and discover today's prevailing narratives, questions, and characters as captured by the rich imagination of its artists.
With Cristina Rivera-Garza, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Claudio Lomnitz, Valeria Luiselli, and Guillermo Osorno.
For this year's PEN World Voices Festival, more than 150 writers from 30 countries will be in venues from Lower Manhattan and Harlem to The Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn. Meet the creative voices shaping Mexico’s literary culture, and rethink the stories of migration, the border and national identity through the illuminating lens offered by writers and artists. In addition to the Mexico-themed programming, the festival offers a globally inspired array of conversations, readings, performances, and workshops, featuring rare New York appearances by leading and emerging authors from around the globe.
