Fiction Writing Workshop with Maria Camila Vera Arias
Join Restless Books, in partnership with NYPL, for an immigrant fiction writing workshop series hosted virtually via Zoom! These free writing classes seek to inspire immigrants to tell their own immigrant stories. Workshops will involve reading, responding to short immigrant narratives, and writing exercises led by experienced teachers.
About the class: In this workshop, participants will learn the art of fiction writing and reflect on personal experience with immigration through the fiction genre. During this series, participants will have the opportunity to work with an immigrant writer to write, edit, and workshop their own fiction works. This entry-level workshop is open to writers with all levels of experience.
This workshop will be hosted online on the following dates from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM EST:
November 6
November 13
November 20
Attendance at all three sessions is required. Please ensure you can attend all three sessions of this class to participate.
This workshop will be held online via Zoom. Please register above with your email address to receive the link to participate.
Participants will get a free copy of a Restless book written by an immigrant writer. During the class, Restless Books will select several pieces, which will be edited publication and published on the Restless Books website. These poems will be published online to be discovered by writers, agents, and the general public.

They seek extraordinary international literature for adults and young readers that feeds our restlessness: our hunger for new perspectives, passion for other cultures and languages, and eagerness to explore beyond the confines of the familiar. Through cultural programming, they aim to celebrate immigrant writing and bring literature to underserved communities. They believe that immigrant stories are a vital component of our cultural consciousness; they help to ensure awareness of our communities, build empathy for our neighbors, and strengthen our democracy.
