FAQ
Labs
How will classes be offered?
All of our classes take place on Zoom. Each lab will be taught at the time advertised. Subject to change only by the current instructor.
Why are there different module levels?
Our three levels are designed to help writers develop their ideas. Each step up asks more of the students involved. When you finish all three levels, we’ll send you a certificate of completion in that genre.
I’m an experienced writer. Do I have to take Bootcamp before I take the other classes?
No. Bootcamp is for those looking to learn the skills offered in that module, which enable students to get the most out of the classes we offer. Other students can start at Level 1.
Can I test out of Level 1 and/or 2 and start at a higher level?
Each module will have a mix of students at different skill levels. If you are interested in jumping levels, only after approval is given based on your work sample, you may do so.
Can anyone take the business module?
Our business module is designed for anyone to take. There is no prerequisite. That being said, we do recommend you take a writing module before doing so.
I have more questions!
We understand. Please reach out to (lab@restlessbooks.org) with any further questions you might have. We are here to support you.
Applications
What application materials do I need to apply?
If you wish to sign up for our Bootcamp, no materials are needed. If you wish to begin in one of our three genre tracks, you will need to submit a writing sample for us to review. Lastly, if you wish to apply for a scholarship, we ask that you submit a 250-word letter describing your need. All scholarship applications are due three weeks prior to the module’s first class.
What are the writing-sample requirements?
If you wish to skip Bootcamp and go straight into our Level 1 modules, we ask that you send in a single-page writing sample from the same genre as the lab you intend to take with us. We’ll review your work before we give our approval.
How soon after I send in my application will I hear back?
We’ll respond to everyone as quickly as possible.
Reserving your spot
Does the letter of acceptance mean that a spot is held for me in the incoming class?
No. A spot will only be held for you once you pay the class fee. If you have applied for a scholarship, we will notify you via email about the result along with an invitation to confirm your spot.
May I defer acceptance to the next round of classes?
Yes.
May I defer acceptance to the next round of classes if I received a scholarship?
Yes.
Financial Information and Scholarships
Do you offer extended payments?
We do not. You must pay in full before the class begins to hold your spot in the class.
Do you offer financial aid or scholarships?
Absolutely. See Applications for more info.
International Students
Do you accept international students?
Yes, we do. All of our classes are held on Zoom so you’ll be able to attend.
Will the class times change to accommodate those students?
All classes are offered at the times stated. Teachers will have office hours for you to chat with them. Those will be decided by the instructors.
