Deepak Unnikrishnan at Literati Bookstore

  • Literati Bookstore 124 East Washington Street Ann Arbor, MI 48104 United States (map)

On Monday March 20, Deepak Unnikrishnan, author of Temporary People and winner of the Prize for New Immigrant Writing, will appear for a reading at Ann Arbor's Literati Bookstore. He will be in conversation with John Ganiard, the store's manager and a Michigan MFA alum.

Temporary People takes on the humanitarian crisis of the so-called "guest workers" of the Persian Gulf with visionary flair; a starred review in Kirkus hails it as "an enchanting, unparalleled anthem of displacement and repatriation," and author Alexandra Kleeman calls it "a book of Ovidian metamorphoses for our precarious time."

Deepak Unnikrishnan is a writer and taleteller from Abu Dhabi (and now, Chicago). He has lived on the East Coast and in the Midwest, reciting and mining his myths in Teaneck, New Jersey, Brooklyn, New York, and Chicago’s North and South sides. He has studied and taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and presently teaches at New York University Abu Dhabi. Temporary People, his first book, was the inaugural winner of the Restless Books Prize for New Immigrant Writing.

We aim to be a place where book lovers can go, talk, and interact with each other. We also host author readings, book clubs, poetry nights, open mic nights, and anything else we can think of. But most of all: We want to be a great and welcoming bookstore.
