On Tuesday March 21, Deepak Unnikrishnan, winner of the Prize for New Immigrant Writing for his novel Temporary People, will present the book at Chicago's Unabridged Bookstore.
Temporary People takes on the humanitarian crisis of the so-called "guest workers" of the Persian Gulf with visionary flair; a starred review in Kirkus hails it as "an enchanting, unparalleled anthem of displacement and repatriation," and author Alexandra Kleeman calls it "a book of Ovidian metamorphoses for our precarious time."
Unabridged Bookstore is known for its dedicated and knowledgeable staff and the staff’s hand-written personal recommendations. Unabridged has an unparalleled sale book section, and an award-winning children's section, an extensive travel room, and offers a great selection of fiction and poetry. For 35 years, Unabridged Bookstore has also been Chicago’s premier go-to-bookstore for LGBT literature. Voted “Best Bookstore in Chicago 2015” by Chicago Magazine, Unabridged remains an iconic institution in the Lakeview neighborhood.
