On March 12, Iranian author Javad Djavahery will be joined by novelist and translator Idra Novey to discuss his remarkable English-language debut at Community Bookstore. There will be a Q&A followed by a book signing.
With a searing introduction by Dina Nayeri, My Part of Her is an extraordinary coming-of-age novel about youth, desire, and the devastation of young lives caught up in global geopolitics. Celebrated Iranian novelist and short story writer Javad Djavahery was forced to leave Iran, settling in France as a political refugee at the age of twenty, and is now based in Paris. Djavahery has produced several films and writes screenplays and fiction. He has two short story collections in Persian and two novels in French. My Part of Her is his English-language debut.
Idra Novey is an American novelist, poet, and translator. She translates from Portuguese, Spanish, and Persian. She is the author of the novel Those Who Knew, a Best Book of 2018 with NPR, Esquire, BBC, Kirkus Review, and a New York Times Editors’ Choice. Her first novel Ways to Disappear, received the 2017 Sami Rohr Prize, the 2016 Brooklyn Eagles Prize, and was a finalist for the L.A. Times Book Prize for First Fiction.
