On Sunday, June 22, we had the rare thrill of celebrating our series Restless Women Travelers at one of the most beautiful places in the country: Edith Wharton's home in the Berkshires, The Mount.
Speaking at the event were three travel writers who kept the audience at rapt attention as they discussed what it means to be a travel writer, how to succeed as a woman traveling alone, and how to remain open to new—and sometimes frightening—experiences: Lavinia Spalding, author of the introduction to our edition of A Motor-Flight Through France, Marcia DeSanctis, who's just finished a book called 100 Places in France Every Woman Should Go, and Colleen Kinder, who teaches travel writing at Yale.
